🎤 Discover our Interview of the month featuring Benedicte Boutrouille
Senior Attorney at Fakhoury Global Immigration
1. Can you tell us about your journey and what brought you to the U.S.?
I am an immigrant myself. 34 years ago this month, my parents and I immigrated from the French island of Martinique to Charleston, South Carolina, where I was fortunate to grow up. 10 years later to the day, we became U.S. citizens. So doing immigration is personal for me; it’s about helping individuals like myself who want to contribute to US have the same opportunities.
2. What inspired you to launch or grow your business here, and what surprised you most along the way?
What has inspired is the stories of all of these entrepreneurs coming to South Florida to implement their ideas and grow their businesses. Miami is such an exciting place to be right with so much going on. What surprises me the most is that I am constantly learning and growing from other expects in their fields, and I feel so fortunate to be in place with such a wealth of knowledge.
3. What’s one cultural difference or mindset shift that helped you adapt to the U.S. market?
That you have to be flexible and always ready to pivot.
4. How has being part of the FACC community supported you or your business?
The FACC community brings me into contact with other experts that contribute to my network and that I can rely on.
5. What’s your favorite place in Miami or Florida and what makes it special to you?
Anywhere on the water because it reminds me of home whether that is Martinique, Charleston, Miami, etc.
6. What’s next for you or your company?
My next objective is to have a stronger market presence in Europe.
7. If you could describe your journey in one word, what would it be — and why?
PIVOT… because you never know what the world has to bring.
